San Isidro is a vibrant and growing barangay located in the municipality of San Vicente, Palawan. Formerly known as “Emeg,” which means “moist” or slightly wet in the local language, this barangay has a rich history and a promising future.
Originally, San Isidro was a sitio or a small village within the larger community of New Agutaya. It was founded by Bartolome Adion, and many of its early residents migrated from the neighboring municipality of Agutaya in search of better opportunities and improved livelihoods.
Recognizing the potential and growth of the area, the Barangay Council, led by Barangay Captain Ponciano Evio, took decisive action. They passed Resolution No. 5 in 1985, requesting the creation of Sitio Emeg and Sitio Bokbok as separate districts and an independent barangay to be named San Isidro. The proposal gained favorable support and endorsement from the Sangguniang Bayan of San Vicente through Resolution No. 20 in 1985 and, subsequently, Resolution No. 66 of 1987 by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Palawan. These resolutions paved the way for the establishment of San Isidro as a distinct and separate barangay within San Vicente.
To solidify its status as an independent barangay, a plebiscite was held on March 5, 1989. Following the successful election and assumption of office by its barangay officials, San Isidro officially began functioning as a regular barangay of San Vicente on May 1, 1989. This marked an important milestone in the barangay’s history as it gained autonomy and the ability to govern itself.
Since its creation, San Isidro has made remarkable progress and development. The barangay has witnessed improvements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other essential services. Through the dedicated efforts of its local government and the active participation of its residents, San Isidro has emerged as a thriving community.
